About YARID

Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) is a registered NGO based in Kampala, founded in 2007 by young Congolese refugees living in Uganda.

The mission of YARID is to empower refugees, orphans and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) around Africa to overcome the burdens of deprivation and vulnerability to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing members of society.

YARID unites urban refugees through avenues like sports, English classes, and vocational skills training in order to address social issues like ethnic conflicts, unemployment, public health, and lack of access to education. Refugees that YARID serves mainly come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia.

SECURITY GUARD

Job Overview/Summary

As a Security Guard, you will be responsible for safeguarding YARID’s premises, assets, staff, and visitors. YARID is seeking a reliable, part-time Security Guard to support the safety and security of the organisation, ensuring a secure environment at all times.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Patrolling and monitoring activities on the company’s premises regularly to discourage criminals and ensure the environment is safe and secure.
  • Evicting trespassers and violators and detaining perpetrators while following legal protocols before relevant authorities arrive to take over.
  • Monitoring and controlling the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and vehicles according to protocols. Check identification cards and maintain accurate logs of visitors
  • Monitoring surveillance cameras to watch out for any disruptions or unlawful activities.
  • Providing detailed reports on daily activities and any incidents that may have occurred to management.
  • Using provided communication devices such as two-way radios in a clear and concise manner.
  • Interact with visitors and employees in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist visitors with inquiries and provide directions.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • A level Certificate (Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education – UACE) or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of working experience as a security guard.
  • Experience working with security equipment, such as surveillance systems, metal detectors and access control devices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and demonstrated report writing skills.
  • Demonstrate quick adaptability to new technologies to ensure effective monitoring and response.
  • Able to keep calm in hostile situations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey information effectively both in verbal and written formats.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Service-oriented with good interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of languages spoken by refugees, such as French, Swahili, etc., will be considered an added advantage, as well as local languages such as Luganda.
  • Experience working with refugees and/or vulnerable populations preferred.
